At Proteo, we take your privacy seriously. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use the Proteo Android application and related services ("Proteo", the "Service").
1. Information We Collect
A. Account Information
When you create a Proteo account, authentication is handled by our identity provider, Clerk (Clerk, Inc.). We receive and store your basic profile information, such as your name, email address, and a unique account identifier. If you sign in with a third-party provider (such as Google or Apple), we receive the basic profile details that provider shares. We use this information solely to create and authenticate your account and to sync your data across devices.
B. Meal Photos & Nutrition Data
When you use our AI scanning feature, you capture photos of your meals. These images are transmitted securely to our servers and stored privately in your account so you can review your meal history. Photos are shared with our AI processing provider for the sole purpose of estimating ingredients and nutritional content, such as protein. We do not use your meal photos for advertising, and we do not share them with third-party marketers. Your logged meals, nutrition data, streaks, and habits are stored securely to provide you with insights and coaching.
C. Health & Fitness Metrics
You may choose to provide health-related information such as body weight, protein or nutrition goals, and dietary habits. We use this information only to personalize your targets, track your progress, and generate coaching insights. We never sell your health data or use it for advertising.
D. Subscription & Purchase Data
Subscription payments are processed by Google Play. We do not collect, process, or store your credit card details or billing information. We use RevenueCat (RevenueCat, Inc.) to manage subscriptions: RevenueCat receives purchase receipts and a pseudonymous app user identifier from Google to validate your purchase, manage your entitlements, and support restoring purchases across devices.
2. AI Processing
Proteo uses artificial intelligence to analyze your meal photos and to generate personalized nutrition insights and coaching reviews. To provide these features, meal photos and relevant nutrition data are shared with our AI service provider (OpenAI) strictly for processing. Our provider processes this data on our behalf to return the analysis and does not use it to train their models under our service agreement. AI estimates are informational and are not medical advice.
3. How We Use Your Information
- To provide, maintain, and improve the core functionality of Proteo.
- To analyze your meal photos strictly for nutritional estimation.
- To generate personalized AI insights and coaching reviews about your nutrition habits.
- To sync your history, goals, and streaks across devices.
- To manage your subscription and restore purchases.
- To communicate with you regarding updates, security alerts, and support messages.
4. Service Providers
We share data only with service providers that help us operate Proteo, and only to the extent needed to provide the Service:
- Clerk — account creation and authentication.
- OpenAI — AI analysis of meal photos and generation of coaching insights.
- RevenueCat — subscription management and purchase validation.
- Google Play — payment processing for subscriptions.
- Cloud hosting and storage providers — secure storage of your account data and meal photos.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers.
5. Data Retention & Deletion
We retain your personal data and nutrition history for as long as your account is active. You have the right to request the deletion of your account and all associated data at any time.
How to delete your data: You can delete your account directly in the Proteo app: open the Profile tab and tap "Delete account". This immediately and permanently erases your profile, meal photos, nutrition history, and sign-in identity. Alternatively, email privacy@proteoapp.com from the email address associated with your account and we will process your deletion request.
6. Security
We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your personal information from unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. All data transmission between your device and our servers is encrypted using HTTPS/TLS, and meal photos are stored with private, owner-only access.
7. Children's Privacy
Proteo is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
8. Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details below and we will respond as required by applicable law.
9. Changes to this Policy
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date. We advise you to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.
